Is Vaping Bad For You?
There has been a lot of talk and hype about whether or not vaping is bad. According to FDA, vaping is officially an epidemic and has become very popular among the young generation.
Though vaping is somewhat bad…but to what extent? Let’s try to find out…
What Is Vaping?
Vaping is the use of electronic or e-cigarettes that are battery operated. These devices have a liquid bottle attached with a coil underneath which heats the liquid and turns it into vapors. The liquid usually contains nicotine which is then inhaled through the mouthpiece.
E-cigarettes are different from traditional smoking. Vaping devices heat the liquid which produces vapors and not smokes whereas cigarettes burn small leaves to produce smoke which not only contains nicotine but 4000+ other chemicals.
But the question arises…
Does That Make Vaping Healthier?
Well, no – Other than just nicotine, the flavored liquid used in vaping devices also contain potentially toxic chemical substances like propylene glycol or glycerol. When heated up, these substances morph into propylene oxide which is known to cause cancer in humans.
To make it even simpler, if you are vaping nicotine, then it is really bad for you and can potentially increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
However, on the other side, if vaping is helping you quit smoking, then it will help lower the risk of cancer, lung disease and other diseases caused by smoking.
There are high quality expensive vaping liquids available on the market that doesn’t contain nicotine and are relatively safe. As long as you are vaping without nicotine or any other drug like weed, it is just glycerin and the flavorings you are inhaling.
It is entirely up to you as to which type of flavoring you choose. If you are addicted to nicotine or drugs like weed and prefer them to be present in your vaping liquid, then definitely vaping is bad for you.
However, if you are cautious about your health and still want to vape, you should consider high-end vaping liquids that contain safe, clean and transparent ingredients.
What Else To Know?
A lot of vape consumers are often unaware of what they are consuming. As mentioned above, almost all of the vaping liquids contain propylene glycol which is harmless and also FDA approved. However, buying a cheaper liquid means that it contains diethylene glycol which is an industrial solvent and is potentially poisonous. Foreign countries where there is little to no regulation, there is a very high chance of heavy metals and other banned chemicals being present in the liquid.
Whether vaping is bad for you or not is pretty complicated to answer. If your goal is to quit smoking, you may switch from smoking to vaping and then gradually wean off nicotine and stick to the safe ingredients only.
Overall, vaping is a healthier alternative to smoking but generally, it still causes harm to your body. It does give the smoking cessation but it is known to cause cardiovascular problems.
